Anime Review: Samurai Flamenco

samurai flamenco

Masayoshi Hazama: a man who has become a superhero “by himself” with no superhuman powers or any sort of high-tech conversions, NONE!!

Hidenori Goto: a cop who found out the true identity of “the superhero” by a strange twist of fate and thus constantly gets in trouble thanks to Hazama, the superhero.

This is the story of the birth of a true hero featuring these two young men with a touch of comedy and serious drama, while they come face to face with hardships as they search for the true meaning of becoming a hero of justice in this world! (Source: Aniplex USA)

General Information:

Type: TV
Episodes: 22
Aired: Oct 11, 2013 to Mar 28, 2014
Producers: Aniplex, Manglobe, Fuji TV, Aniplex of America
Genres: Action, Comedy
Rating: R – 17+ (violence & profanity)

I found Samurai Flamenco to be unexpected. The anime was all over the place, yet the story is good. It was unexpectedly deep and had a lot of values in it. The main character is very admirable. I think it would be safe to say that the anime had 3 different arcs. Each arc had its own direction. I think the anime would feel ridiculous to super hero fans. Though I enjoyed it very much. It had a good amount of action and was pretty funny at time. The twist and turns in the story were totally unexpected. Overall it was a good anime.

Anime Review: Kuroko no Basket

The Teiko Middle School Basketball Team. The class that produced three perfect seasons in a row, with five once-in-a generation players, called “The Generation of Miracles.” There was another player who all of them respected… A legendary 6th player. An up-and-coming power player, Taiga Kagami, is just back from America. When he comes to Seirin High School, he meets the super-ordinary boy, Tetsuya Kuroko. Kagami is shocked to find that Kuroko isn’t good at basketball, in fact, he’s bad! And he’s so plain that he’s impossible to see. But Kuroko’s plainness lets him pass the ball around without the other team noticing him, and he’s none other than the sixth member of the Miracle Generation. Kuroko makes a pact with Kagami to defeat the other members of the Miracle Generation, who have all played basketball at other schools. A battle of light (Kagami) and shadow (Kuroko) begins!

This is one of the best sports anime I’ve come across for a while now. Though both seasons ended with cliffhangers, I cant wait for season 3. Kuroko no Basket has an amazing storyline. It keeps you wanting more. I liked how you get to see everyone’s story not just the main characters. I also like how the anime had a somewhat of a slice of life aspect to it. Its not always about winning. Its not always about perfection.  Its about the passion for the game which it a great message to convey. I highly recommend this anime. Its one of the top must watch anime ever made. I should also mention that the Special episodes were a cute change to the seriousness of the anime. So you might want to check them out as well.

Book Review: The Alchemist

The Alchemist follows the journey of an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago. Believing a recurring dream to be prophetic, Santiago decides to travel to a Romani fortune-teller in a nearby town to discover its meaning. A gypsy woman tells him that there is a treasure in the Pyramids in Egypt.

Early into his journey, he meets an old king, Melchizedek, who tells him to sell his sheep to travel to Egypt and introduces the idea of a Personal Legend (which is always capitalized in the book). Your Personal Legend “is what you have always wanted to accomplish. Everyone, when they are young, knows what their Personal Legend is”. He adds that “when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it”. This is the core theme of the book.

General information:

Author: Paulo Coelho
Genre: Drama, Adventure, Self-improvement
No. of pages: 163

The Alchemist is one of the best stories I’ve ever read in my life. First of all the writing style was just magnificent, because it felt like someone was telling you the story. There were few sentences in that book… that were life changing to me. For example:

“The simple things are also the most extraordinary things, and only the wise can see them.”

“Everyone seems to have a clear idea of how other people should lead their lives, but none about his or her own.”

“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”

“There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.”

It was amazing how the boy learned from everything around him. It was inspiring how knowledge could be one’s greatest weapon. and it was sad how one could lose sight of their dream without even realizing it. This book should be if every household’s bookshelf and everyone should read it.

Anime Review: Sakura Trick

Sakura Trick

The story revolves around Haruka and Yuu, two girls who go to a high school that is slated to be shut down in three years. To share something special between them, they share a kiss, and their relationship deepens from that moment onward. (Source: ANN)

General Information:

Type: TV
Episodes: 12
Aired: Jan 10, 2014 to Mar 28, 2014
Producers: Studio Deen, Pony Canyon, TBS, Sentai Filmworks
Genres: Comedy, Romance, Shoujo Ai, Slice of Life
Rating: PG-13 – Teens 13 or older

Sakura Trick is the gayest anime every created after Strawberry Panic… yes its that gay. I’m not against that. The anime talks about Yui and Haruka mainly. There is this side couple which are Kotone and Shizuku. There is an actual love story between Kotone and Shizuku. On the other hand, there is nothing between Yui and Haruka… Its pure fanservice which I don’t approve of. I get that the anime is a Slice of Life and I like Slice of Life. I didn’t get why they used it this way though. I wouldn’t recommend this anime to be honest but I did like Kotone and Shizuku relationship. If their story was the main story then I would’ve recommended the anime. Since its not the anime is not really worth it.

Kagari tells him it is her mission to protect him and that now she can finally protect him openly rather than undercover. (Source: MU)

witch craft works

Witch craft works is a very entertaining anime. The story is a bit unexpected, since the girl always protects and saves the guy. The anime is pretty funny and serious all at the same time. The character development was pretty very good. The anime was never boring, it always kept you wanting more. The anime Keeps you on edge till the very last second of the last episode. Yet its very entertaining and chaotic. Basically, it had a good balance between everything… character development, plot, soundtrack, and animation. If you like fantasy anime, you will like this show.
