Book Review: The Alchemist

1130_Resize_the-alchemist

Summary:

The Alchemist follows the journey of an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago. Believing a recurring dream to be prophetic, Santiago decides to travel to a Romani fortune-teller in a nearby town to discover its meaning. A gypsy woman tells him that there is a treasure in the Pyramids in Egypt.

Early into his journey, he meets an old king, Melchizedek, who tells him to sell his sheep to travel to Egypt and introduces the idea of a Personal Legend (which is always capitalized in the book). Your Personal Legend “is what you have always wanted to accomplish. Everyone, when they are young, knows what their Personal Legend is”. He adds that “when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it”. This is the core theme of the book.

General information:

Author: Paulo Coelho
Genre: Drama, Adventure, Self-improvement
No. of pages: 163

Review:

The Alchemist is one of the best stories I’ve ever read in my life. First of all the writing style was just magnificent, because it felt like someone was telling you the story. There were few sentences in that book… that were life changing to me. For example:

“The simple things are also the most extraordinary things, and only the wise can see them.”

“Everyone seems to have a clear idea of how other people should lead their lives, but none about his or her own.”

“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”

“There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.”

It was amazing how the boy learned from everything around him. It was inspiring how knowledge could be one’s greatest weapon. and it was sad how one could lose sight of their dream without even realizing it. This book should be if every household’s bookshelf and everyone should read it.

Review:

So after finishing the third season of the Legend of Korra, I must say that I’m impressed. The show keeps getting better and better, with a solid plot. I love how the character’s relationships improved and how the idea of Korra having a boyfriend almost disappeared. I do like Mako, very much. Nevertheless I’m glad they didn’t go on with the relationship it’s better that they are friends. I also love the fact that we got to see more of Lin’s other side. They give her very little credit. I’m also very happy for our beloved Bolin, for having Opel. Its good to see how the characters improved in this season. I love that Jinora is more recognized now, I know it started from the last season but I just love how far they are taking it. It is my favorite season by far. I love how the ending made me eager for more. It opened up many possibilities for the next season. It was also a better ending than Book 2’s.

Review:

This series is based on a manga with the same title. The reason I decided to review this is because many people don’t understand what I.S. is or what it means and this show explains it in an amazing way. I.S stands for intersexual, as the title of the show says Neither a male or a female. They are born with a gender issue… I don’t wanna go into details they explain it better in the show. It is an amazing show and awesome plot its different from the manga in some ways but the idea is the same which is addressing the IS issue. I highly recommend it it will give you a better understanding about the issue. This show will surely give you a different view to the world… I know it did for me.

mai-hime

Review:

Mai-Hime is a great anime. I was genuinely surprised about how good it was, I honestly didn’t expect it. It is a fairly or somewhat of an old anime. Nonetheless it is worth watching very good story and an interesting plot. It does have a somewhat of a Shoujo Ai aspect to it. I’m just giving you a heads up. The most interesting part for me was that each character had a certain depth to her/him. its not like other anime where the main character is the main focus. The was a dragon in the anime which turn up its rate for me. There were some pretty funny moments in the anime and some very dramatic ones that got me teary. Therefore its an excellent story. As for the animation it was pretty good for its time… as in fairly animated. The soundtrack was pretty cool as well. There wasn’t anything bad about the anime but it did lack something, You should check it out and judge for yourself.

Review:

So after watching the anime I was psyched to watch the movie. Slice of Life anime are always great. The movie is a completion of an untold part of the story in the anime. Its something that I wondered about watching the anime so I was really glad that the movie told that story. I highly recommend that you watch the anime before watching the movie. I really enjoyed learning more about Ohana and her mother in that movie. You will also enjoy the movie even if you haven’t watched the anime. Though I still recommend the anime first. Both the anime and movie are great it would be a shame to miss out on either of them. So make sure to check out the movie and anime.

Review:

I usually don’t like movies that are sad. Surprisingly I liked this one. I haven’t read the novel yet so this review is strictly about the movie. The movie began as a total cliche. Literally like every other romantic movie. I was disappointed. Then the movie took a completely different turn. the story was actually beautiful. I even got a favorite quote from the movie. It was that good. This is the first movie that ever made me wonder about how I actually feel about the movie that I just watched… if you know what I mean. Like there was tones of emotions there. Also the twist took me by surprise. I’m not even sure I can call it a twist I mean wasn’t that what the movie was building up to? Yet, still the ending made me wonder whether or not I like the movie. It was realistic and brilliant. Yet there was still that cliche aspect to it… but still beautiful. I feel like I’m just blabbering now so just go watch the movie, its good. Its really good.
