Manga Review: Gantz – Manga Olympics for Bloggers (Seinen/Shounen Round 2)

Thought your life was bad? Sometimes, death is worse. There is no salvation, peace, nor god waiting to receive you into their care. But wait, a god? Maybe you are talking about that big black ball stuck in the room with you. Now you are thrown into a game, fighting green aliens and robot monsters for the chance to survive.
When Kei Kurono is killed, he thus finds himself caught in such a game; a test of his skills, morals and will to survive. His life is not his own, his death spat and trampled upon over and over again. What happens if he does not listen? God knows.
A word of warning: Gantz is not for the faint-hearted, but neither is it as simple as it looks. Gore, rape and violence is rampant, as are portrayals of greed, violence, and all the ugliness that one sees in society today. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Firs of all thank you Sir Hiroya Oku for 13 amazing years of Gantz. I still can’t believe it ended… I kept looking for one more page after the last page of the last chapter. So yeah, I’m a huge Gantz fan. It’s an amazing manga if you haven’t checked it out, you should.

Now for the actual review. Gantz concept is totally unique. The manga Follows Kei Kurono & Masaru Katou, they are basically the main characters. Due to the concept of the story a lot of characters appear in the manga. The manga is amazing. I loved the story up until the Osaka Arc. It was magical. Though the last arc which is the catastrophe arc, was totally weird. The manga does develop greatly to reach that arc, but the fights weren’t as good as the previous arcs.
The action is absolutely brutal through out the whole manga, I’m not saying that the last arc was bad. It was just a little disappointing for me. Also, I’ve noticed that the whole focus was back to Kurono. I know that Nishi and Sakurai were also main topics in that arc, though it always fell back to Kurono. To be completely honest here, I was disappointed and didn’t like that fact. One more thing I didn’t like in the manga was the fact that we didn’t see most of the characters in action. Specially Reika, did she ever fight?
Supposedly she got 100 point and fought bravely against so many tough Aliens. Though we didn’t see any of that, did we? It was always Kurono this, Kurono that, and her looking pretty in the background of the page… I mean seriously? Well, even with all that its still my favorite manga and it’s the best and brutalist manga out there. Also the story is amazing. I like the idea of Gantz. Is it recommended? Yes of course.

Rating: R+ – Mild Nudity

I know that this is an old anime, but I just watched it last month. I read part of its manga as well. The anime is different from the manga, it’s like an alternative version. I really liked that fact, for so many reasons that I won’t mention. :p
I have to warn you first, that there is nudity in the anime and mature content “story wise”. So, at first the main character seems strong, yet the human side of her seems fragile. The art of the anime was great. Also, the main character’s beauty showed, and a lot of girls fell for her. Which is basically why its themed yuri. There was a lot of action and bloodshed in the anime. Oh, and the opening theme song of song of the anime was amazing I could listen to that song all day!! There was something I didn’t quite understand in the anime… Jun “the main character” seemed to walk around and kiss guys for no reason… I mean a guy appears out of nowhere she would share a kiss with him, and then you never see that guy again… What’s up with that?! Other than that the story was solid. So, good story, good sound track, good art, and it’s a very good anime.

First thing first this movie is Blood-C sequel so I recommend you watch the anime before the movie. With that been said, I shall start the review. I don’t know what is it with the Blood franchise and trains, I guess it’s their trademark or something. I didn’t expect much from the movie though I was surprised by how well it’s made and how interesting the story was. Even though there were parts about the movie that felt like deja vu, it was still pretty amazing. I love the change that happened in Saya’s character. Saya was so badass and more skilled in this movie than any other blood series/movie. The action was absolutely amazing. I can’t believe I’m saying this but it was even better than blood+ bloodshed. If you like action bloody movies, you’ll love this one.

Manga Review: Hohzuki Island

It’s about two children being sent to live on a basically deserted island. Deserted except for a few other kids and teachers. Suzuhara Kokoro and his blind little sister Yume find that all is not as it seems as they learn more from the other kids and see the actions of their teachers. (Source:

Hohzuki Island manga reminded me of another. The manga talks about a mystery in a school and all. I know the genre says horror, but its actually a mystery, thriller kind of manga… Its pretty interesting to read yet so predictable. I liked the way how each character’s past unravel. That was the most interesting part of the story. I liked the ending too it was nice.

Anime Review: Zetman

The story starts off with a face-off between two rival heroes, ZET and ALPHAS, and then traces their origins – Jin Kanzaki, a young man with the ability to transform into a superhuman being known as ZET, and Kouga Amagi, a young man with a strong sense of justice who uses technology to fight as ALPHAS.

The fates of these two men and those around them intertwine as they fight to protect mankind and destroy monstrous abominations known as Players, who ironically are the creations of the Amagi Corporation, the company founded by Kouga’s grandfather, Mitsugai Amagi. (Source: ytv ENGLISH)

Duration: 24 min. per episode

The first time I saw Zetman I had high expectations for it. Even though it wasn’t as good as I expected, it was still worth the time. The idea was pretty awesome. I like discovering Jin’s identity through out the anime. Also the way the story built up was pretty interesting. It’s not like there was anything wrong with the anime. I just believe that it should’ve been longer. Also, I believe that it didn’t do the manga much justice.

Deadman wonderland was one of the most out standing anime last year. I loved the opening song, and the animation style. The blood and gore in that anime was insane. Exactly what I like! Even though the ending was a lot like an indian movie this anime still stood out. The mystery of the man in red was very intense. Like who could possibly do something like that? But then you discover that almost all the characters are conflicted, and pretty much crazy in a bad way. Which keep rising questions. I believe that this anime is worth watching!!

Review: The Walking Dead

Based on the comic book series of the same name, The Walking Dead tells the story of a small group of survivors living in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse. Most of the story takes place in the Atlanta metropolitan area, and then the surrounding countryside, as the survivors search for a safe haven away from the shuffling hordes of predatory “walkers” (as the zombies are referred to in the show) who devour any living thing they catch, and whose bite is infectious to humans. The plot is focused primarily on the dilemmas the group faces as they struggle to balance their humanity with their survival against the zombie horde, and later, how they cope with members being killed and deal with other human survivors they encounter, many of whom are dangerous and predatory themselves.

General information:

Create by: Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard (comic book)
Developed by: Frank Darabont
Genre: Serial Drama, Horror, Zombie Apocalypse
No. of seasons: 2
No. of episodes: 19
Origin: United State
Original run: October 31, 2010 – present
Status: On hold. Season 3 will primer on October 14, 2012

The walking dead is truly one of the best zombie series ever made by Hollywood. The zombies look so realistic and so is the drama! Its almost like a family show/surviver game, in a good way. There is also something which made that show stand out, the blood. It looks so realistic even better than saw movie! I liked the soundtrack and the way the characters spoke. I believe that this show is a must watch and you should put it on top of your list.

Anime Review: Highschool of the Dead

A mysterious, lethal disease is on the loose worldwide, resulting in a catastrophic death rate of humanity, and the increasing rise of attacks, caused by the living dead.

In Japan, several high school students and a school nurse have banded together to escape Fujimi High School shortly after it was attacked by zombies. The group now attempts to figure who or what was responsible for this plague, and in the meantime, attempt to survive the present apocalypse.

The story is initially narrated through the eyes of Takashi Komuro, one of the students who had survived in the initial outbreak. (Source: My anime list)

General information:

Type: TV
Episodes: 12
Status: Finished Airing
Aired: Jun 27, 2010 to Sep 20, 2010
Genres: Action, Ecchi, Horror, Supernatural
Duration: 24 min. per episode

High school of the dead is one of those anime that you can’t help but to like! The animation and the drawing is pretty cool. The story is amazing. The character’s structure is unbelievable. You might think what makes this anime any different than any zombie apocalypse story out there? For starter the story revolves around high school students! Second the fact that the characters are pretty young make them smart about how to fight or handle zombies. Plus, each character specialize in something which makes their group almost perfect. Its like they complete each other. You have the smartest girl in school, a gun otaku, the kendo club president, the slacker, and the lover. These are the perfect elements of a successful story! So yeah, H.O.T.D is one of the best anime out the and you most defiantly have to put it on your must watch list!

Here is a trailer of the anime:
