What would you do if you could stop time? Moritani for one is using her unusual ability to stop time for three minutes a day to observe the people around her. One day, she chooses to “observe” class idol Murakami’s panties – only to find herself in a very compromising situation when her classmate turns out to be immune to her power. Flagtime is a very interesting. Moritani is socially awkward. She usually uses her ability to stop time to run away from people or observe her surrounding. Murakami is a popular girl, who’s very straight forward. I love the development in the manga and how their relationship is building. The character development is amazing so far. This is one of those manga that you must read. The story is very sweet. It’s kinda sad to see that such an amazing manga is so underrated. So go check it out. I’m already a fan-girl of this manga! xD

The other day I was checking out what’s new in the manga world, when I came across this title. The manga is titled “Hero Mask” so I thought it’s going to be another corny hero manga. You see most hero manga are similar to one another. Anyways, I thought I should give it a try since its under “Seinen” genre. I’m glad I checked it out! It was so interesting!! They have a Hero club at school. Also, the manga is about self-development which is exactly why I love manga!! The characters have a cool idea about hero and justice which was nice. Even though they still haven’t had any serious action/fighting scenes, it seems like the manga has potential. I can’t wait to read the next chapter and I believe you should give it a try its pretty interesting. :D

This manga is the sequel of Ordinary ±. In this manga 2 new characters prevail and they are as sick as Imari. The manga is by Takahashi, Keitarou who made Jormungand. So the art is amazing and so is the concept of the manga since its about Assassins. The manga is so intense with amazing action. So far only two chapters are translated in English. I so can’t wait to read chapter 3. Also it seems like more assassins will show up in the up coming chapters. It’s totally exciting I can’t wait to read more!!

Manga Review: Gantz – Manga Olympics for Bloggers (Seinen/Shounen Round 2)

Thought your life was bad? Sometimes, death is worse. There is no salvation, peace, nor god waiting to receive you into their care. But wait, a god? Maybe you are talking about that big black ball stuck in the room with you. Now you are thrown into a game, fighting green aliens and robot monsters for the chance to survive.
When Kei Kurono is killed, he thus finds himself caught in such a game; a test of his skills, morals and will to survive. His life is not his own, his death spat and trampled upon over and over again. What happens if he does not listen? God knows.
A word of warning: Gantz is not for the faint-hearted, but neither is it as simple as it looks. Gore, rape and violence is rampant, as are portrayals of greed, violence, and all the ugliness that one sees in society today. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

General Information:

Type: Manga
Volumes: 37
Chapters: 383
Status: Finished
Published: Jul 13, 2000 to Jun 20, 2013
Genres: Action, Drama, Ecchi, Horror, Sci-Fi, Supernatural, Psychological, Seinen
Authors: Oku, Hiroya (Story & Art)
Serialization: Young Jump

Firs of all thank you Sir Hiroya Oku for 13 amazing years of Gantz. I still can’t believe it ended… I kept looking for one more page after the last page of the last chapter. So yeah, I’m a huge Gantz fan. It’s an amazing manga if you haven’t checked it out, you should.

Now for the actual review. Gantz concept is totally unique. The manga Follows Kei Kurono & Masaru Katou, they are basically the main characters. Due to the concept of the story a lot of characters appear in the manga. The manga is amazing. I loved the story up until the Osaka Arc. It was magical. Though the last arc which is the catastrophe arc, was totally weird. The manga does develop greatly to reach that arc, but the fights weren’t as good as the previous arcs.
The action is absolutely brutal through out the whole manga, I’m not saying that the last arc was bad. It was just a little disappointing for me. Also, I’ve noticed that the whole focus was back to Kurono. I know that Nishi and Sakurai were also main topics in that arc, though it always fell back to Kurono. To be completely honest here, I was disappointed and didn’t like that fact. One more thing I didn’t like in the manga was the fact that we didn’t see most of the characters in action. Specially Reika, did she ever fight?
Supposedly she got 100 point and fought bravely against so many tough Aliens. Though we didn’t see any of that, did we? It was always Kurono this, Kurono that, and her looking pretty in the background of the page… I mean seriously? Well, even with all that its still my favorite manga and it’s the best and brutalist manga out there. Also the story is amazing. I like the idea of Gantz. Is it recommended? Yes of course.

Anime Review: Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai.

Kyousuke Kousaka, a normal seventeen-year-old high school student, hasn’t gotten along with his younger sister, Kirino, in years. For longer than he can remember, Kirino has ignored his comings and goings and looked at him with spurning eyes. It seemed as if the relationship between Kyousuke and his sister, now fourteen, would continue this way forever.
One day, however, Kyousuke finds a DVD case of a magical girl anime entitled Hoshikuzu Witch Meruru (Stardust Witch Meruru), which had fallen into the entranceway of his house. To Kyousuke’s surprise, inside the case is a hidden adult video game titled Imouto to Koishiyo! (Love with Little Sister!). Kyousuke attempts to fish out the culprit who dropped the case by bringing up the topic of magical girl anime at the family dinner table. All that comes out is a strong negative reaction from his parents, especially his anti-otaku policeman father.
That night, Kirino bursts into Kyousuke’s room and, in perhaps the first conversation she has initiated with him in years, says they “have things to talk about.” Kirino brings Kyousuke to her room and shows him an extensive collection of moe anime and lolicon bishoujo games she has been collecting in secret.(Source: Wikipedia)

How the hell did this anime turn into Harem? TT^TT, I really liked the first season of Ore no Imouto and I was excited to see the second season but…
Ore no Imouto, is a funny anime. The concept of the anime was so surprising which is why I liked the first season. I like the character design, and I specially like Ayase. I like how the characters keep arguing about things and the fact that the main character is an Otaku. The announcement of the second season was awesome. It’s like “Kirino is back” and that was it. In the second season the anime took a different turn. It was basically a brother complex/harem. I don’t mind Harem but I really hate the brother complex thingy. Which kinda made me dislike the anime a little. I’m glad that I finished the second anime because everything was properly explained. I have to say this though… Kyousky you lucky bastard. *SPOILER ALERT* I still can’t believe that Ayase fell for him. That been said… How the hell did this anime turn into Harem? TT^TT

I was intrigued by the manga when I first read its title. I didn’t know anything about the manga when I first read it. I’ve only concluded that its interesting and I wanna read more of it. As I was reading I kinda recognized the drawing style it was similar to Sun-Ken Rock. So, it turned out to be the same author. Boichi is one of the best Seinen manga artist/author so I wasn’t surprised. The first chapter starts as a slice of life. It’s basically the life of a NEET. Then a women comes in the picture when everything changes and the story becomes Ecchi, Interesting no? Now that you got the story, time for some action. It’s a perfect story why are you still reading this and not the manga already? :o

Anime Review: Yuyushiki

The story follows the school life of the three girls, Yuzuko, Yukari, and Yui, who join their high school’s Data Processing Club. The odd friendship between the three make for wacky humor in even the most mundane of events.

General Information:

Type: TV
Episodes: 12
Status: Finished Airing
Aired: Apr 10, 2013 to Jun 26, 2013
Producers: Kinema Citrus, Sentai Filmworks
Genres: Comedy, School, Slice of Life, Seinen
Duration: 23 min. per episode
Rating: PG-13 – Teens 13 or older

This is one of the most hilarious anime I’ve seen, and the funniest anime this year. Yuzuko, and Yukari are high, and they both love Yui. Wait, everybody is in love with Yui for some reason. Yuzuko is a smart student, yet she’s an idiot according to Yui that is and the funniest character in the anime. Since the anime is a slice of life and based on a 4-koma manga, the story wasn’t flawless. It means that in every episode bits and pieces of a lot of events but that only makes it funnier. This anime is too self aware. Oh, and it reminded me of Big Bang Theory, even though they are different in many ways I couldn’t help but remember Big Bang Theory. It’s like a gayer version of it. Nonetheless, I dare you to watch this anime without laughing even once. Now, go watch it.

Seinen Manga vs. Seinen Anime – Manga Olympics for Bloggers (Seinen/Shounen Round 1/part 2)

This is the second post for the Olympics. Voting begins today.

Anime are so popular these days, with more and more anime fans coming out everyday. The Otaku community is growing yet manga seems to have less fans or is less popular than anime. According to MyAnimeList the most popular manga has around 99,921 readers while the most popular anime has been watched by 335,870 people. The numbers seems unfair, even though manga are way better than anime. So how is Seinen manga better than Seinen anime?

I’ve watched a large number of anime titles, around 400 anime. Some of the Seinen anime I’ve watched are Ergo Proxy, Berserk, Gantz, Another, Aoi Bungaku Series, Zetman, Black Lagoon, Jormungand, Btooom!, Canaan, Brave 10, Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko, Freezing, Devil Lady, Hellsing, and Manyuu Hikenchou. What I’ve noticed is that if the manga contains brutal violence they make a lame anime out of it. while if the manga is Ecchi they make it Ecchier. oh, and the gory scene are always censored. I seriously don’t get it but moving on. Examples:

Gantz anime vs. manga:

I was very impressed when I watched Gantz anime it was gorier than saw movies. Also the Sci-Fi there is amazing. The ending surprised me, it felt like that was it. Though when I googled it I found out about the manga. The manga had 300 something chapters and was still ongoing at the time. So I was curious and check it out! I was blown away by how good the manga was. It was gorier than the anime, had more character and explained the story better. After reading the manga I was disappointed with the anime it didn’t serve the manga right. The manga is so complex and brutal. There is always a stronger enemy. Also, the characters that came later on in the manga had deeper stories. One you start reading it you just can’t stop. It’s so addictive. If you haven’t read the manga yet, your missing a lot already.

Zetman anime vs. manga:

I don’t know why Zetman’s anime was made. I mean the manga is 185 chapter today, and the anime is 13 episodes. Can you see how wrong that is? So I was thinking maybe the anime was made a sum up of the manga. Though with all respect the anime simple gave the manga a bad name. The manga is so good, it’s pretty brutal and more in depth “story wise”. So if anything I rather read the manga again than what the anime again.

Devil Lady anime vs. manga:

Devilman Lady

In Devilman Lady case the anime is an alternative version of the manga. In the anime the main character is a model, she has a best friend(or was she a lover?) and she hates Asuka. In the manga the main character is a teacher, doesn’t have much friends, and she loves Asuka. See what I mean by an alternative version?
Now, why is the manga better than the anime? The manga is more complex and more mature than the anime. I kinda understand why the anime was made as an alternative version. You see in this manga particularly there is some Greek mythology creatures, such as: Hydra, and Cerberus. Also a part of the manga around 4-6 chapter takes place in hell. I think they were trying to moderate the anime. Though who cares about that. Read the manga it’s way better!!

Sum up:

These were only some example of how different and sometime unfair anime can be. Though more importantly and surprisingly most of the top Seinen manga don’t have an anime. Which basically gives you more reason to simply stick with manga. I’ll recommend you read OldBoy, Nononono, 20th century boys, wolf guy, and Pluto. So maybe then you’ll understand the magic of manga!

Seinen Manga – Manga Olympics for Bloggers (Seinen/Shounen Round 1/Part 1)

This is the first post for the Olympics. Voting begins today.

There are 4 major genres is manga: Shounen, Seinen, Shoujo, and Josei. Here is a little explanation about those 4 genres (incase you don’t know what they mean). Shounen manga is intended for teenagers, teenage boys specifically for example Naruto, One Piece. Seinen manga is intended for young adults, or young men for example Gantz, Berserk. Shoujo manga is intended for teenage girls for example Fruit Basket, Skip Beat!. Lastly, Josei is intended for women, or young women for example Honey and Clover, Paradis Kiss. Each of these genres have sub genres under them.

Since our topic is Seinen I’ll be talking about Seinen sub genres:

List of most popular Action/Seinen manga:

Black Lagoon

Green Blood

Vinland Saga

Action in Seinen manga:

Action in Seinen manga is more violent than Shounen manga. Also, The fights in Seinen manga are there with killing intention. I personally perfer Seinen action because its more serious and more real. For example in Btooom! the characters are fighting for their survival. They fight for themselves and their comrades. Also when someone is killed they actually die. While shounen manga action is mostly associated with comedy. For example Bleach the main character gets killed 3 times and he’s more power than ever. -.-
So Seinen/Action is the best. Since, there are stories about Mafias, Arms dealers, assassins… Etc. and they are always realistic.

Some popular Comedy/Seinen manga:

Hentai Ouji To Warawanai

Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy ha Machigatteiru

Comedy in Seinen manga:

Seinen/Comedy is so bold and mature. It’s so funny… Kinda dirty sometimes. Also some Seinen/comedy are totally weird like 17 sai °C. So it interesting.

Some popular Drama/Seinen manga

Drama in Seinen manga:

Seinen/Drama are no joke. You wanna read good drama read it Seinen. They are so well written. They’re very deep and realistic. I didn’t like drama until I’ve read a Seinen/Drama manga. They have the most interesting topics. They are a must read.

Gender Bender

Balance Policy

Gender Bender in Seinen manga:

So what differs a Seinen/Gender Bender from a Shounen/Gender Bender?

Seinen/Gender Bender are more dramatic and mature than Shounen/Gender Bender. How? Shounen/Gender Bender have the tendency to be comedy and Ecchi, while Seinen/Gender Bender focus on the story both character history and future goal. So Seinen/Gender Bender is the manga to read.

List of most popular Horror/Seinen manga

Sugar Dark: Umerareta Yami to Shoujo

Horror in Seinen manga:

Horror is one of my favorite genres. Seinen/Horror is the scariest type of horror in the world. No movie, anime, comic book, or a series is scarier than a Seinen/Horror manga. They took horror to a new level with titles such as Blame!, Berserk, and I am a Hero. You want to know what horror means read a Seinen/Horror manga.

Some popular Psychological/Seinen manga:

Himegoto: Juukyuusai no Seifuku

Monster image

Old Boy

Psychological in Seinen manga:

The Seinen/Psychological manga are so interesting. Personally, once I start reading them, I won’t stop until I finish the story. Mostly Psychological manga are Seinen/Psychological/Mystery or Seinen/Psychological/Slice of Life and there is also a Seinen/Psychological/Horror but I won’t talk about that.
First, Seinen/Psychological/Mystery in these manga the main character is usually in some sort of struggle and he is being bushed to his limits “Psychologically speaking”. Second, Seinen/Psychological/Slice of Life these manga are usually about self development how the main character find peace with him/herself or learn how to accept themselves.
Seinen/Psychological manga are amazing. Everyone can enjoy them even though their plots are mature. There are amazing lessons there.

Some Romance/Seinen manga:

Romance in Seinen manga:

I’m not a fan of Romance manga in general. So this is gonna be brief… Seinen/Romance usually have mature content and nudity. As for the romance…it’s more honest, open, straight forward, and sexual. Also maybe Harem sometime.

List of most popular Sci-Fi/Seinen manga:

20th Century Boys

This has been an artwork of Firewalker

Ghost in the Shell

Gokukoku no Brynhildr

Kamen Rider Spirits

Sci-Fi in Seinen manga:

Science fiction is one of the most popular Seinen sub genres, with titles such as Gantz, Zetman, Pluto, Ghost in the shell, and 20th century boys. The stories are pretty mature “plot wise” and they are also complicated. There are always twists in the stories. It’s never straight forward and that’s what keeps them interesting. The world that’s created and the amount of imagination there is insane. It’s absolutely wonderful to read.

Some popular Sport/Seinen manga:

One Outs

Karate Shoukoushi Kohinata Minoru

Last Inning

Giant Killing

Sports in Seinen manga:

The Seinen/Sport manga are more realistic than any other genre. It’s about the development of a player and a team at the same time. I like how they show the whole process of self development for the Athletes and how it reflects on their team for group sports. As for single sports I like how the athlete learns from everything around them and apply it to their sport as they’re developing their skills. It’s so interesting to read.

List of most popular Supernatural/Seinen manga:

Dance in the Vampire Bund

Devilman Lady

Elfen Lied

Getsurin ni Kiri Saku

Wolf Guy: Ookami no Monshou

Supernatural in Seinen manga:

Supernatural is also a popular Seinen sub genre, with titles such as hellsing, devilman lady, Elfen Lied and wolf guy. If you haven’t read Seinen/Supernatural manga yet, then you don’t know what a vampire, or a werewolf is. Seinen/Supernatural took myth creatures such as vampires, shape-shifters and werewolves to a different level. They focus on revealing their monstrosity and their fearsome power. The stories are very deep and serious. The fights are brutal and drama is amazing.

So generally speaking Seinen manga are mainly mature “plot/content wise”. The violence there is brutal and vicious. The stories have a dramatic tendency, with deep and realistic plots. As far as fantasy goes its pretty complex and mysterious. Seinen manga can also be scary, funny, or disturbing sometimes. Sienen manga are surely interesting and truly the best!

Manga Review: Ordinary ±

Two assassins met – Imari Matoba, Yayoi Kawaguchi one lost his master and they part.
- “We’ll help each other out if we’re in trouble.”
- I have no intention of needing the help of an assassin.
What does Fate have store for them in the future?
Will they meet again? As enemies or allies? (Source: mangaupdates)

General Information:

Type: Manga
Volumes: 1
Chapters: 4
Status: Finished
Published: Kodansha, Shogakukan
Genres: Action, Seinen
Authors: Takahashi, Keitarou (Story & Art)
Serialization: Sunday Gene-X

There was once a Mafia “Black Lagoon“, there was one an arms deal “Jormungand“, and now we have an assassin. Ordinary is about an assassin named Imari. The manga is written by Takahashi, Keitarou, who wrote Jormungand. The manga is pretty intense and includes some awesome action. There is always some sort of twist in the story which makes it more enjoyable to read. Also, the character design is awesome. The manga is a bit too short, nonetheless the characters are very unique to a point you wanna read about them more. I totally recommend the manga, it’s very enjoyable.

Overall Rate: 9/10

P.S. after finishing the manga, make sure you check out Destro 246 by Takahashi, Keitarou
