Game Review: Attack of the Friday Monsters! A Tokyo Tale

Millennium Kitchen’s Kaz Ayabe is known for mesmerizing many Japanese fans with his heartwarming stories in the Boku no Natsuyasumi (Summer Holidays 20th Century) series. In ATTACK OF THE FRIDAY MONSTERS! A TOKYO TALE, he introduces for the first time, a Tokyo-life simulation game where players will take the role of a young boy named Sohta who lives where the giant monsters from the TV shows of Japan’s 1970s come to life every Friday. In this rustic town of tranquil days and idyllic scenery, there lies a nostalgic tale sure to warm your heart. ATTACK OF THE FRIDAY MONSTERS! A TOKYO TALE is the first of Kaz Ayabe’s games to be released outside of Japan.

General information:

Genre: Action, Adventure

After playing Liberation Maiden and Attack of the Friday Monsters! Tokyo Tale, I’m officially a Level-5 Fan. Attack of the Friday Monsters! Tokyo Tale is a beautiful game, the graphics is really good. The game is very enjoyable, you get to discover the town and collect cards to play with other characters. The story is pretty awesome, it goes something like episodes where you have to do a task each time to finish a certain episode. It’s crazy fun! Also, love the fact that when you win against another player in the card game, you get to cast a spell on them. I must say that the spell is the cutest thing ever!!! Also, as a bonus after you finish the main plot of the game, you can customize the spell to your liking. I mean how cool is that? I swear playing this game made me feel 10 years younger. XD
This game is a must try. It’s different than anything you’ve ever played. So, it’s totally worth it.

Game Review: Liberation Maiden

Liberation Maiden is a full-scale 3D sci-fi shooter created by critically acclaimed developer Goichi Suda. An invading country is stealing all of Japan’s energy. The player controls Shoko Ōzora (voiced by Kana Hanazawa), a high school girl who became President of Japan after her father’s assassination, as she enters the mech Kamui to fight back. It features animated cutscenes created by Studio BONES and the main theme song, “Day of Liberation” performed by Marina.

General Information:

Genre: Shooter, Action
Developer: Grasshopper Manufacture
Publisher: Level 5
Designer: Goichi Suda
Release Date: 3DS October 25, 2012, iOS March 7, 2013
Platform: Nintendo 3DS, iOS
Website: Click Here

The other day I bought a Nintendo gift card, redeemed the code and logged in Nintendo eShop. That’s when I saw this title “Liberation Maiden” and check out the trailer. I was very impressed with the animation so I bought the game. The reason why I’m telling you this story is because, I never heard about this title before that day. The game was cheap which surprised me. The quality of this game is pretty high, I mean as I started the first stage I had to go back and check the game price. It’s worth every dollar.
The graphics and animation were awesome. The mecha you pilot is incredible. I’ve never played a better pilot/Mecha/shooting game in my life. I might be exaggerating there, but for those that are familiar with good flight/shooter games, it’s as good as the Dreamcast games from that genre. I was a bit disappointed that the language was only English. I would’ve loved to hear the story in Japanese.
I almost forgot to mention the game play. The game is played by the touch screen and moving pad on 3DS. The game is short, it’s pretty easy to beat. Though there was this one stage that I struggled in, because I couldn’t find the enemy :P but once I did it was easy to finish. I strongly recommend this game. If you don’t have a 3DS, it’s now available in Apple App Store. The game is incredibly fun, and so refreshing. It has amazing graphic and the game play feels old school which is the best! It’s a must get.

Rate: 4/5

P.S. For those that already played the game I’m happy to tell you that there is a sequel visual novel of the game titled Liberation Maiden: SIN and it will be released for ps3.

Game Review: Bastion – iPad

The game takes place in the aftermath of the Calamity, a catastrophic event that suddenly fractured the city of Caelondia as well as the surrounding areas of the game’s world into many floating pieces, disrupting its ecology and reducing its people to ash. Players take control of the Kid, a silent protagonist who awakens on one of the few remaining pieces of the old world and sets off for the titular Bastion, where everyone was supposed to go in troubled times. The only survivor he meets there is an elderly man named Rucks, the game’s narrator, who instructs him to collect the Cores that once powered Caelondia. A device in the Bastion can use the power of the crystalline Cores to create landmasses and structures, as well as enable the Kid to travel farther afield via “skyways” that propel him through the air. General Information:

Genre: Action Role-play
Developer: SuperGiant games
Publisher: Warner Bros., interactive entertainment
Designer: Amir Rao
Programmers: Gavin Simon, Andrew Wang
Artist: Jen Zee
Writer: Greg Kasavin
Platform: iOS – iPad

I was first introduced to this game by a friend of mine 2 years a go. I played it via PC and loved it though I didn’t get a chance to finish it. So I was very excited when it came out on iPad a year ago. I could finally enjoy the game and finish it. The only difference between the two versions is the playing controls.

The things I enjoyed most about this game were the amazing Graphics, the storyteller and the game play. I love the fact that there were endless variety of weapons. The game also has an interesting variety of creatures to fight. It’s totally original. Discovering the game’s world is a blast itself. As for the difficulty, the game is pretty easy to beat. Also very enjoyable, it sucks you in and you’ll never get bored. The game has 2 different endings both absolutely amazing. I’ve also fell in love with the soundtrack. I recommend everyone to play this game. It’s only $4.99 for iPad and $14.99 for PC. click here for more info.
